I wrote this song in one sitting to the instrumental for "Daylight" by Aesop Rock. I sat on the lyrics for a long time, and I think I may have even recorded them to that beat once.

Years went by and I found that sample by Orleans on one of my parents' old 33s. I chopped it, looped it, and knew that "Playground Legend" was written for it. The vocals were recorded by Dylan Barnes, in his mother's sunroom, in front of a mattress.
